​Creating Custom Wooden Bookmarks

​If you’ve been following my creative journey, you know I’m always looking for fresh canvases to bring my original designs to life. Recently, I decided to step outside the usual frame and try something a bit different—and a lot more tactile.​I’m excited to share a project I’ve been quietly testing in the studio: hand-painted, thin plywood bookmarks featuring original artwork!​

The Challenge of the Small Canvas​

Moving art onto a long, narrow strip of thin plywood sounds simple enough, but the execution was a real test of precision.​When you’re working on a surface this small, every line counts:​Scale & Format: Fitting a cohesive composition onto a narrow wooden strip requires careful planning.​Precision Line Work: There’s no room to hide mistakes—the line work has to be razor-sharp.​Functional Details: I wanted these to feel like premium, keepsake items, so I added a vibrant yellow-and-grey back featuring my signature and finished them off with a dangling tassel so they hang neatly outside your current read.​Despite the tight working space, the prototype turned out even better than I envisioned!

​What’s Next: The August Art Drop​

This first piece was a proof-of-concept, and now that the process is locked in, I’m going all in.​I’ve already sketched out an entire collection of unique bookmark designs. I’m currently putting the finishing touches on them for my upcoming August Art Drop, which will go live on my Etsy store in the middle of August.​Each piece in the drop will be a limited, handmade item, making every single bookmark a one-of-a-kind piece of functional art.
